The project It Gets Better was started in 2010 as a response to the number of students committing suicide after being bullied at school for being LGBT by Dan Savage and Terry Miller.
My very own university, the University of Leeds have contributed to this project by producing a fantastic video in order to help raise awareness about LGBT issues. The video made by members of the Leeds University Union’s Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans (LGBT) Society has shot to success, making big news on websites such as the Huffington Post.
The goal of the video is explained by Christopher Lee, co-events and promotions officer of Leeds University’s LGBT society who states,
“We decided to make a professionally shot video that would serve as a flagship for other LGBT societies around the country to follow. It is vital that this message gets across to the younger generation. We felt the need to highlight how university can be the perfect place to come to terms with who you are, to grow on not just an academic level, but a personal one too.”
